Fall Fitness Tips Trainer Tony Martinez As seasons change our bodies don’t necessarily stay the same as we head into fall and winter. This is especially true for those of you experiencing really cold weather in the months ahead.  In fact, some studies suggests it takes weeks for human bodies to adjust to colder temperatures. Still, that’s no excuse not to exercise.  With holiday parties, dinners, and plenty of sweets on the horizon, you’ll need these fall fitness tips I shared in a recent interview on Canada’s Kelly Alexander Show to keep you motivated to stay in shape.  Take a listen.

In addition to what I said on the show, here’s a few more important fall fitness tips:

  • Do a good warm up! During cooler weather our muscles tend to tighten up so be sure to stretch and warm up your muscles especially if you’re heading outside.
  • During the cooler months, take advantage of cooler air and go cycling, walking, or running with friends. You may be more motivated to continue exercising if you’re not doing it alone when it gets colder.
  • Exercise at a higher intensity when outside to keep blood flowing well to your extremities. It will help keep them warm.
  • Stay hydrated! When it’s colder we generally drink less water, but we still sweat. Keep plenty of water handy.
  • If working out in the cold, be sure to layer your clothing and wear a hat or scarf to help you retain body heat.
  • With daylight savings time making mornings darker and colder, resist the urge to sleep longer and stick to your morning exercise routines.  You must remain disciplined if you’re going to reach your goal.
  • When it comes to building up a resistance to snacking and overeating during the holidays, read my post, “Eating Healthy Through The Holidays.”
  • If stuck inside, watch my exercise video gallery or YouTube channel  to see great exercises you can do indoors with no equipment accept maybe an exercise ball.
  • If traveling away from home to visit friends and family for the holidays, use my handy resistance bands and Core Disks to get a quick and effective workout in literally anywhere.  Visit TonyMartinezFit.com to see just how easy they are to use.

Leave a comment below and share with me which of the fall fitness tips you’ll be using over the next couple of months.  It’s hard to believe it’s almost 2014!  Thank you all for your support this year–the tweets, messages, and participation.  There’s more to come next year. Have a wonderful holiday season!
